Monokuma vs Korosensei(Danganronpa vs Assassination Classroom)
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” - William Arthur Ward.
Before We Start
Both Monokuma and Korosensei have relatively simple media lists, so deciding media lists should be fairly easy. We will be considering a soft composite for both characters, meaning all major material and adaptations. One exception will be the feats from Danganronpa 2 due to the game taking place in a virtual world, making its feats and abilities unusable. Korosensei's Quest and both Danganronpa gag manga will be excluded due to being comedy based series that wildly differ from the main canon.

Backgrounds:
Monokuma:
“Well, yelling for help is useless for fictional characters anyway. It makes the viewers even more depraved and obsessed when they feel sorry for you. They watch, knowing that they shouldn't, just to revel in the depravity of it all. That depravity is the appeal of death games. It's the appeal of this very killing game... It's the appeal of Danganronpa itself.”
- Monokuma
Monokuma is a black and white robot bear created by Junko Enoshima and Monaca Towa to bring despair across the world. Junko got bored of how predictable the world was and despair was the only thing that could make her feel anything so she made it her goal to bring the world to despair. The Monokumas were branded as robot maids but ended up being used by Junko to end the world. They were used to help cause The Tragedy and destroy the world. During the Killing Games he acts as the Headmaster of Hope’s Peak and the judge and executioner during the trials. He’s used by Junko as a way for her to interact with the students and give them motives to kill each other. Eventually the students uncovered his secrets and overcame his despair with their hope. However he came back through Junko’s AI for the second killing game but ended up losing again. No matter what happens to him, he will always try to bring despair to everyone. There’s nothing Monokuma loves more than the faces of his students when they and their friends die.
Korosensei:
“It’s about rising to the occasion, it’s about tasting the rapture and triumph and disgrace of failure, they go hand in hand you see. One is meaningless without the other to win one has to lose. The difference between the novice and the master is that the master has failed more times than the novice has tried.” - Korosensei
Korosensei is a giant yellow octopus-looking teacher of class 3-E. He used to be known as the assassin named “The Reaper” and was the deadliest assassin alive. He grew up in a broken and poor place where the only way to live was to kill and because of this he trained his abilities and knowledge so he could kill anyone. Eventually his apprentice betrayed him because of the way he mistreated him, this caused Korosensei to get abducted and used for experiments. These experiments had him be infused with anti-matter tentacles which massively increased his strength and speed but made him lose his sanity. During this time he became close to Aguri, the fiance of the scientist experimenting on him, who helped him become more human. When he tried to escape she accidentally died and he hated that he didn’t save her so he sought to improve himself and teach her class and help them. He ends up helping the class reach their goals/potential and grew fond of them and cares about them a lot. However, because of the government trying to kill him, they ended up killing him. No matter what he will always try to help his students and protect them. There’s nothing Korosensei loves more than the faces of his students when they succeed and grow.

Korosensei's speed
If you've followed the community for a while, you would be more than aware that Koro's speed is a pretty divisive topic, and depending on where you stand that can actually somewhat change how you think this matchup ultimately plays out. So, we're going to look over everything and try our best to determine which side is correct. He's consistently stated to fly at Mach 20, even shown to be slower than a rocket moving at Mach 23 and the second Reaper who moves at Mach 40. However he has 2 light-speed feats as shown when he dodged a blast by the Spear of Heaven, which is stated to fire light speed lasers and, and he blocked a laser fired by Yanagisawa with dirt which can get pretty high numbers as shown earlier. So which side is correct?
The truth is honestly probably somewhere in the middle. While Koro is stated to be Mach 20 consistently, he's also stated to grow faster, but does he have the showings to back this up? Well… probably? He is still able to somewhat keep pace with and react to the second Reaper who is explicitly stated to move at Mach 40 and the fact that he has 2 FTL feats does mean it's likely not a complete outlier. The simple explanation for this is that Korosensei's movement speed is Mach 20 however his reaction speed is relativistic-FTL. Movement speed and reaction speed are different enough for this sudden gap to make sense, so yes Korosensei is FTL, it's just for his reaction speed.
But what about the higher numbers? Didn't we give Koro blocking a laser with dirt up to 100 x FTL? We did! However now we can go more in-depth because the arguments for those numbers… aren't that great. First, Korosensei's other FTL feat relied on him using his sixth sense to be aware it was coming and he barely dodged it. While we don't know when he moved, it's unlikely that he'd get hit by it if he was 100x FTL. Second, the 6.68-100c calc for the feat relies on Korosensei creating an after-image, however, it's very unlikely the after-image was relative to the laser instead of relative to our pov. Korosensei creating an after-image doesn't mean he's moving so fast that he's making an after-image compared to the laser, it's just him normally creating an after-image like he usually does in the anime. Third, the feat has been calced much lower so it getting that high is also inconsistent. Korosensei is faster than light but not 20-100 times faster.
Missing calcs
There are 2 calcs for feats that have been thrown around however we didn’t add them for certain reasons. The first one is the 0.07c calc for Korosensei blocking a laser with dirt. This calc has been thrown around in discussions with Korosensei however we couldn’t find the post or link for this calc. We did calc it ourselves and got it to 0.39c so we're not sure how this number was achieved. The second one is a 16 Gigaton calc for the 4 Monokumas making a hole in a cloud(4 Gigatons each). This calc actually had a post for it however the post sadly got deleted. The big problem with this is that this prevents us from finding how they got the calcs and the methods they used, which matters for how valid the calcs are, however we did find a recalc for it that gets to 1.7 Gigatons per Monokuma so we can use that. We will still be considering these calcs for the verdicts as they do help with high and low ends for both, however because we don’t know the exact methods for them they have less of an impact on the final verdicts.
Korosensei's laser
Thanks to the DBC for this matchup, Korosensei's laser has been looked at more in depth and calced much higher than before, but is this consistent or accurate? Well it depends if you agree with the E = mc2 formula for the laser and believe it is discharged anti-matter from his body. There's also the problem of the laser never showing that level of power when it's used. However that is the same for several other fictional characters and abilities and there's no other reasonable explanation for what the laser is. So which is it? Well it's up to interpretation so for this we'll break it up into 2 arguments, one agreeing with it and one disagreeing with it.
Arguments for:
The laser has Korosensei compress his tentacles and create an energy-based laser and his tentacles are made of anti-matter so the laser being discharged anti-matter makes sense and while it is way higher than his other feats, the condensity of the laser means it likely wouldn't cause that much visual damage.
Arguments against:
The argument for the laser getting that high relies on a theory that has no statements for it working like that, so assuming that it does doesn't have any grounds. Also it's never shown to be that powerful when used by Korosensei and massively surpasses every other feat in Assassination Classroom so it'd be an outlier anyway.
The bean feat
During the Korosensei drawing song Korosensei drops 2 massive beans that’s been calced to around 100 Kilotons, however this never actually happened. The manga confirms that Korosensei never actually performed the feat and was just singing a catchy song to his class. This is also supported by the fact that dropping beans that can harm the lives of random people isn’t something he’d do and he’s also stated that he couldn’t lift 5 Tons so him lifting a bean of that size doesn’t make sense.
MFTL Danganronpa
There are 2 MFTL Danganronpa feats that we’ve mentioned but the series hasn’t gotten that high with other feats so are these valid? The first one is Big Bang Monokuma blitzing several Monokumas which has been calced to around 2028c. While Big Bang Monokuma massively upscaling from other Monokumas makes sense, the feat relies on calc stacking which isn’t the most reliable method for calcs. So BBM should upscale by a lot but it getting to over 2000 times the speed of light is an extreme high-end at best. The second one is Junko’s analysis ability compared to Mukuro which has been calced to 324c. While this does use a statement from UTDP, which takes place in a simulation and isn’t canon, the characters should physically be the same in it so using it for this feat does work. While it also does use Junko scaling to Mukuro for the feat, it uses a direct narrative statement that Junko can scale to instead of a separate feat so it isn’t calc stacking. So 2028c is at best an extreme high-end while 324c should work for Junko’s processing speed and how fast Ultimate Analyst can analyse, however the Monokumas can’t move that fast themselves and is only viable for her processing speed.
Extreme high ends
Both have feats that have high ends way bigger than they normally get to like Big Bang Monokuma’s cloud splitting feat getting to 229 Teratons and Korosensei’s tornado getting to 495 Megatons despite them not getting that high with other calcs. For these they will be taken into consideration for the verdict however, they will be taken with a grain of salt and won’t have that big of an impact compared to their lower ends.
Verdicts:
Mammoth_Ad:
I'm Mammoth, the main person working on this blog and this is my verdict/who I believe wins.
First, tertiary factors. Monokuma is smarter thanks to Ultimate Analyst and has better combat prowess as he has fought more people on his level, Korosensei is more skilled and experienced thanks to his many years of being an assassin but Ultimate Analyst nullifies skill, Korosensei is the smarter fighter as he uses strategy more in combat while Monokuma primarily uses his numbers advantage to overwhelm his opponent, Monokuma has better stamina via being a robot, and Korosensei has better agility via more dynamic flying compared to the Monokumas. Monokuma should take more categories as Ultimate Analyst nullifies a lot of Korosensei's advantages as it can allow Monokuma to just predict all of Korosensei's actions and gives Monokuma the intelligence advantage and Monokuma doesn't have to worry about stamina while Korosensei does. Overall, Monokuma takes this category.
Next, stats. Monokuma is physically stronger and consistently faster while Korosensei's laser is stronger. Absolute Defense Form technically gives Korosensei the durability advantage however his base durability is lower than Monokuma's and since it makes Koro unable to move for 24 hours, it's not that useful. While Korosensei's laser is stronger than Monokuma, Monokuma is physically stronger and faster so Monokuma should take stats. Also the laser has the weakness of needing to be charged up and can be prevented by the Monokumas pinning Korosensei's tentacles down. Overall, Monokuma takes this category.
Finally, abilities/arsenals. Monokuma's several variants, executions, and ways of ending the fight like the Despair Video and Blackout Light gives him an immediate edge. While Korosensei's biology melts metal, Monokuma is way too strong for that to really impact him. Korosensei's electricity should be able to shut Monokuma down, his mini tentacles can disassemble him from the inside, and his liquid form counters being turned into butter and can help him avoid attacks, but he'd have to electrocute/disassemble every Monokuma and he can't do damage while a liquid. Korosensei's 6th sense can help him dodge but Ultimate Analyst is better in every way. Absolute Defense Form gets hard countered by Blast Off launching him into space. The Blackout Light can wipe Korosensei's memories and the Despair Video can make Korosensei kill himself. While you could argue that the anti-matter tentacles and Despair Video have similar effects, Korosensei is never shown to directly resist the tentacles' emotion manipulation as he just wished to be weak and didn't have a corruptible desire like Itona and Kayano, also it's implied that he'd become corrupted if Aguri didn't snap him back to his senses so that arguments doesn't work. While Ritsu could hack the Monokumas, Korosensei would need to directly install her into them as shown when the students needed to install her into the space center for her to hack it in chapter 151, showing that she needs to be installed into an outside source to hack it, which Korosensei can't do mid fight.
Korosensei self-destructing to win is extremely out of character to the point of character assassination and isn't something he can even do as he can only self-destruct on March 13th and the class made it only a 1% chance anyway. Korosensei just has no solid way to destroy every Monokuma while Monokuma can easily overwhelm him or instantly end the fight. Overall, Monokuma takes this category.
So overall Monokuma should win. He takes tertiary factors, stats, and counters all of Korosensei's wincons. As much as I absolutely love Korosensei, he just has no solid way to win that doesn’t get countered or made hard to pull off because of the stat gap or the fact that he's fighting an army in the hundreds. The winner is the Ultimate Despair Bear, Monokuma.
Fnaf fan_1234:
Oh, I get to write one of these? Sweet! Monokuma vs Korosensei huh? Let's break it down.
Stats:
So… yeah Monokuma kinda blows Korosensei out of the water physically. Over 1.7 Gigatons vs 700 Tons is just… yikes. Though Koro does actually have things that would let him keep up, his laser is 6.4 Gigatons, however this has the downside of not actually transferring to Koro's physicals so whether or not this would let him actually take the category is dubious, so just be safe, I'll give Monokuma the strength advantage.
Speed is a similar boat, Koro should realistically be Relativistic but at his peak would be baseline FTL due to dodging the laser of the Spear of Heaven, higher-ends then that face notable issues. Monokuma on the other end pretty easily hits over 4 times that due to dodging shots from the hacking gun. It is worth noting that FTL vs 4x FTL is not an insane gap Koro could never hope to react to in any scenario, but it is a gap nonetheless and as such Monokuma takes speed.
Overall Koro isn't necessarily “helpless”, he has something that lets him compete in strength and speed isn't really a huge gap, but he's still at a notable disadvantage in stats. Monokuma takes this category.
Arsenal/Abilities:
Starting with abilities, is it any surprise Koro takes this? Monokuma basically has no real abilities to speak of barring Ultimate Analyst and it's not like he's got many worthwhile resistances either. Ultimate Analyst is pretty nice though I'll give him that, but we'll get to how it affects the fight later. Koro on the other hand has abilities that could just kill Monokuma outright like melting metal or electricity, both things Monokuma would likely be vulnerable to and have no real way around, Korosensei takes abilities.
Arsenal on the other hand is a bit more complicated, Monokuma definitely has far more than Korosensei but Koro weirdly has ways around some of it. Turn Koro into butter, crush him with a hydraulic press/fire engine and boil him in a cauldron? Koro can just turn into liquid and negate all of that, but what about the Flashback and Blackout lights, those would be big ace cards right? Maybe in the sense that Koro can't inherently resist them, but Koro has experience reacting to similar things like Yanagisawa’s light which he was able to block out with dirt, there's not much reason to assume he couldn't do the same thing to either of Monokuma's flashlights. Things like the spears are also kinda useless due to Koro's liquid form and his inherent regeneration.
However Koro doesn't have ways around everything, if Monokuma just explodes on top of Koro while he's not in his Absolute Defense form it could genuinely just be game over, and being sent into space is a pretty explicit weakness of Koro's and Monokuma just has an execution that does exactly that. Not to mention that Monokuma isn't just one bear, he's an entire army with several backup bodies and other units that would be pretty tough for Koro to fully kill. Ritsu might seem like a big ace card for Koro here, but remember that he needs to explicitly insert her into what he's hacking and depending on the unit she would also have to deal with AI Junko who's way more impressive than her, when everything’s stacked up Koro can counter some of it but Monokuma takes arsenal.
Tertiary Factors:
Finally we have the tertiaries, and this is where Monokuma really shines, let's start with what Koro does have over him here. Koro is generally much more experienced and inherently skilled, I would also say Koro is generally a much better fighter, and that's kinda it. Let's circle back to Ultimate Analyst, because it basically nullifies all of these advantages.
Due to its nature of being able to predict and copy movements and plan against them, it not only means Koro can't rely on superior skill or experience, but if anything would ensure that skill wise Koro would actually be on the back foot. Monokuma also can actually fight pretty damn well, so it's not like Koro would be running circles around him anyway. There's also the factor of stamina, Monokuma doesn't need to worry about stamina due to being robot while Koro explicitly does have stamina to worry about, and while he could go into his Absolute Defense form if he's low on stamina this would make him a sitting duck vulnerable to any of Monokuma's wincons.
Now Koro does have his sixth-sense which while definitely impressive, is basically just worse Ultimate Analyst all things considered. Ultimately, Monokuma takes the tertiary factors with flying colors.
Overall:
So… Koro wins right? Sure Monokuma takes stats, arsenal, and the tertiary factors. But aside from the tertiary factors it's not like Koro is hopeless in stats and he counters some of Monokuma's arsenal on top of having a AOE option like the laser to get rid of Monokuma’s army quickly, this is a slam dunk right? Well… no. Koro's AOE option is impressive, but the odds of it genuinely taking out all of Monokuma's army at once is frankly pretty low especially when you consider that it's not like Koro uses it often. While he does have ways around some of Monokuma's arsenal he doesn't have ways around all of it and Monokuma utterly stomps him in the tertiary factors.
Koro's wincons are simply less reliable. I mean what's more likely to happen? Koro fires a laser he rarely uses and takes out an entire army in one shot, or Monokuma uses one of his most iconic executions? As for anti-matter self-destruction, it not only would be a stalemate at best because both characters would be dead but it also has a less than 1% chance of happening. Ultimately Monokuma just has exactly what he needs to win, though working on this has made me realize this was a bit more complicated than most think, I was really hoping for a Koro underdog win but alas, it appears it wasn't meant to be.
Sorry if you thought Korosensei would triumph over despair, but it's clear that he would fall to the might of dis-bear!... I'll see myself out. The winner is Monokuma!
U/imgonnadeleteyou, aka Final Round Blogs
Alright, here's my next project I've been working on instead of Dio vs Kenjaku it'll come out when Luzanne comes out and it's finally…
Veeeeeeeeeerdict time!
Disclaimer: I'm not an expert on either series. I was basically here to provide a third party unbiased outsider perspective. Read the other 2 verdicts. Mammoth and Fnaf Fan carried the blog.
Stats
So starting off with any powerscalers meat and potatoes, the stats. When it comes to exclusively lowballs, Monokuma consistently numbers in the hundreds of megatons, with the shared cloud splitting feat reaching 1.77 Gigatons. Korosensei reaches 729 Tons, which is impressive, but clearly outclassed. Some might point to the laser feat but I personally don't buy it. It uses E=MC^2 purely because of the use of energy when there isn't really anything pointing to it or mentioning the efficiency of the conversion and how much energy is wasted. Monokuma's highest end can peak at 229 Teratons, which is impressive if not a bit suspicious. So no matter how you look at it Koro is struggling strength-wise.
Speed
Korosensei can get to 0.39 c in a calc clearly made by a very impressive scaler(me, I made it) for a low-end. The high-ends of the calc can get to 133 c, but the Before the Verdict already explained the problems there. Monokuma meanwhile is comfortably upscaling 4.4 c, meaning he has a comfortable advantage even without his weaker high-end arguments.
Abilities/arsenal
Immediately Korosensei needs defensive options to stop a blitz and one-shot, which leaves his Absolute Defense Form and his Liquid form. These options fall apart when Monokuma counters both. For his Absolute Defense Form Monokuma can blast him to space in his rocket execution or physically break it if you don’t but the form having island level durability(which I don't). As for his Liquid Form, Monokuma could use bombers to evaporate him or use the Blackout Light while he can't move. On the topic of the light, while Koro could employ similar tactics to the Yanagisawa fight at first, eventually he could get pinned or overwhelmed.
One ability that usually gives Korosensei an advantage is the Sixth Sense, but Ultimate Analyst is far better in every way and has more utilities on top of that. Monokuma could predict dodging and cut him off, use his counters against Korosensei's more esoteric abilities, and genuinely stay several steps ahead. Korosensei has options that could kill one Monokuma, sure, but against an army it becomes a drop of water in an ocean. Similarly, Ritsu could take on sole Monokumas if Koro somehow managed to insert her in. Korosensei's best chance is to insert it into a high-end robot like the Big Bang Monokuma, but that would mean dealing with the AI Junko. Ritsu is impressive, but nothing on the level of simulating AI worlds like Junko's technology can do. Even then, the robots she controls would be overwhelmed immediately. Korosensei has a chance with regeneration, but eventually he'll be hit by a bomb, pummelled beyond his limit, put in an execution machine that can overwhelm him, etc. To sum it up, Monokuma counters everything Korosensei can do and has several abilities Koro has no answer for.
And he's not self-destructing. I think we all know that at this point.
Tertiary factors
Ultimate Analyst. At least he gets experience? And agility I guess?
End thoughts
This was a pretty fun blog to work on, even as a third party. It's the first team blog I feel like I actually contributed to. As for the fight…
Koro is so dead dawg💔
Monokuma takes almost every advantage to the point where Korosensei can't really compete. He's a better teacher?
